Elevate your outfit with the ultimate style accessory – eyewear!
Accessories have the power to transform your look in seconds, but few are as impactful—or as personal—as eyewear. Unlike other accessories, your glasses are front and centre on your face, highlighting your eyes and telling the world who you are.
As someone who spends their days helping clients choose the perfect pair of glasses, I can confidently say this: eyewear is your ultimate style weapon—one that many underestimate.
In a world dominated by waist-up interactions on video calls and social media, the right glasses can make you unforgettable. A striking frame in a colour that complements your complexion and a style that reflects your personality will draw attention to your eyes and face, making you the star of your look.
Glamorous Cat-Eye Frames
Cat-eye glasses have been a style staple since the 1920s, and it’s easy to see why. They lift and slim the face, define cheekbones, and create a chic, confident look. Whether you’re pairing them with a crisp white shirt and jeans, glamming them up for an evening out, or wearing them with this season’s pointed-toe boots, cat-eyes have a dramatic, timeless appeal.
Styling Tips:
- Edgy, angular styles help define bone structure for a dramatic, strong look.
- Softer, easy-to-wear cat-eye shapes offer a gentle, feminine vibe.
- For an ultra-glamorous look, a cat-eye frame with sparkle or crystals can brighten your face this season.
Bold Statement Frames
There’s nothing subtle about chunky frames inspired by the 1960s to 1980s—and that’s the point. These glasses exude confidence and pair beautifully with oversized blazers, chunky knits, voluminous fabrics, and dramatic coats, which mimic the scale and boldness of the frame.
Styling Tips:
- When you’re rocking a very bold frame, avoid other accessories too close to your face. If you want to accessories further, select a dramatic belt, stacked bangles, or standout footwear, these are below the waist and won’t compete with your glasses.
- Choose colours that suit your colouring—stronger colours work well for those with darker hair, while chunky pastel acetates and soft gradients complement lighter, delicate colouring.
- If you are petite, scale down the size a little to avoid overwhelming your face.
Geometric Shapes
If you’re after individuality, geometric glasses are your go-to. From hexagons to octagons, these frames are all about sharp angles and statement silhouettes. They pair perfectly with structured coats and tailoring, adding a touch of strength and individuality to your wardrobe.
Styling Tips:
- Balance is key. Ensure the frame shape complements the proportions of your face.
- Experiment with bold colours for an artistic vibe, or keep it neutral for modern sophistication.
Round Frames
Round glasses are playful, intellectual, and effortlessly cool. They pair beautifully with preppy plaid skirts, cardigans, and even flowy bohemian dresses, taking you from “bookish chic” to “romantic artist” with ease.
Styling Tips:
- Very round frames can be difficult to wear, especially if you have a round face. Try oval or panto shapes as an alternative
- If combining round frames with jewellery, pair with complimentary shapes. Round frames look great with softer shapes like ovals and teardrops.
Leopard-Print Glasses
Leopard print has made its way into eyewear, and the result is playful and striking. As a neutral, it’s surprisingly versatile. Whether you’re pairing animal print glasses with a simple, casual outfit or going all out with this season’s leopard-print accessories, these frames are a great way to inject personality into a neutral frame and elevate your outfit.
Styling Tips:
- Warmer yellow-browns suit warm skin tones, while cooler grey-browns flatter cooler skin tones
- Keep the print scale small if you have petite features
Delicate Metals
Fine, delicate metals and rimless frames are making a comeback, offering a lightweight, delicate look that’s perfect for complementing elegant, dressy outfits, and are ideal for those with light colouring and delicate features.
Styling Tips:
- Add your own unique twist to rimless frames by choosing distinctive lens shapes and incorporating coloured tints, giving them a modern, artistic vibe
- Delicate metal or rimless frames can look great with a simple pendant necklace and delicate drop earrings
Sunglasses: Not Just for Summer
Nothing says chic or elevates an outfit quite like a pair of sunglasses. They can hide tired eyes, make the face appear more symmetrical, and transform you into a Hollywood superstar in an instant. Plus, they’re perfect for protecting your eyes during the low winter sun or shielding against harsh winds on winter walks.
The Perfect Fit
Finally much like a beautifully fitted item of clothing, a great fitting pair of glasses instantly flatters and elevates your entire look, below are my 4 top fitting tips:
1.Eyes: Ensure your eyes are positioned centrally within the frames horizontally. Avoid frames that sit halfway down the nose—while this may be trendy among younger generations, it can obscure the eyes, hinder vision, and give the impression of dragging the face downward as we age.
2.Face Balance: Select frames that match the width of the widest part of your face below the brow line. Choose frame depths that balance with the length of your face—deeper frames are flattering for longer faces, while shallower frames suit shorter faces. If you have dark circles, selecting frames that follow the line of the circle can help to minimise their appearance.
3.Brow Line: Opt for frames where the upper rim aligns with or sits slightly below your eyebrow line. The shape of the frame should harmonise with your natural brow shape, helping to open up and lift the eye area.
4.Scale: Choose frames that align with your bone structure and features. Individuals with delicate features should opt for finer, mid weight frame materials, while those with larger features—or a preference for a bolder look—can confidently choose thicker, more dramatic frame styles.
Personally, I love helping people discover the eyewear that brings out their best features and makes them feel incredible. Because when you find the right pair of glasses, it’s not just your style that transforms—it’s your confidence, too.
