The Ultimate Stylists Guide To Glasses That Make You Look Younger

Discover my top tips on selecting eyewear that makes you look and feel youthful and fabulous!

Age Defying Glasses Shapes

As we age, gravity begins to take its toll on our faces, and eyewear styles like the popular aviator -which can appear to drag the face downwards even more – no longer work as well.

Eyewear styles which add lift are now far better. For example, glasses with detail on the upper rim and upswept styles, like a soft cat eye can appear to visually lift our face and cheekbones creating a more flattering, youthful appearance.

Flattering Glasses Colours As We Get Older

We begin to lose pigment from our hair, skin and eyes as we age, which often reduces the natural contrast in our appearance. This means colours that used to work well, may no longer have the same effect. It therefore becomes more important than ever to select eyewear colours that are in balance and harmony with our natural colouring.

The wrong eyewear colours can cast shadows on the face highlighting those pesky fine lines and wrinkles, making us appear older than our years.  In contrast, the right colours can be transformational, appearing to make the skin look smoother, healthier and taking years off our age!

For many people the dark blacks/browns or bright bold colours they may have previously worn no longer have the same impact -they can begin to look harsh and severe- whereas interesting colour combinations in more muted tones now create the wow!

In addition, particularly with clients who have chosen to embrace their gorgeous grey – perhaps going from a being a much warmer redhead – their colouring may have changed completely. The warm browns, reds and golds they glowed in a few years previous, can begin to reflect a sallow/yellow tone on the face making them look a little peaky, and now its the blue- based cooler colours, like silvers, pinks and teals and turquoise’s that add the va va voom

At Style Optique we guide our clients to their most enhancing colours which can work wonders on their appearance.

Glasses which hide dark under eye circles

Dark undereye circles can become a real concern as we age, and billions are spent on light reflecting concealers, creams and surgery.  But there really is no need for such drastic action, because eyewear which follows the exact circle can appear to eliminate dark puffy under eyes like magic! It’s why a lot of our clients’ at Style Optique enjoy wearing their glasses as a youthful accessory.

On the negative side, glasses which are too dark or oversized, can draw attention to  those dark undereye circles even more!

Another magic tips to eliminate dark circles,  is to select a frame with a light colour on the inside rim. This reflects onto the face, reducing the appearance of dark circles

Glasses Scale - the key to a youthful appearance

The Scale of glasses becomes even more important as we age. Those with a smaller bone structure and petite features look far more  radiant with frames that are finer and smaller in size- in balance and harmony with their natural scale. Oversized, or heavier looking frames, can dominate, drag the face down and hide away the beauty that lies beneath

In contrast, those who are larger in scale with bigger features and bone structure, look incredible in mid /heavier weight metals and acetates – the bolder the better! Rimless or fine metals can appear to add weight to the cheeks and years to their age!

Glasses may be in the middle of our face, but they are also a key accessory which should work for us, and complement our overall look.  This includes our hair and clothing style too.  In general, tousled softer hair styles, flowy clothes and a more romantic style work better with softer frame shapes. Edgy hairstyles, straighter clothes lines and a more dramatic style work better with more angled shapes frames. If our overall look is in balance and harmony, it’s more youthful and flattering – and shows a person who has style!

For many of us, as we age, our concept of beauty changes. It’s no longer about a thin body, pretty face and fitting in. A sense of style, personality, individuality and confidence often becomes far more important.
